What’s New

In support of Louisiana’s AITC mission to educate and increase understanding of agriculture and instill an appreciation for our renewable food, fiber and fuel systems, Louisiana Ag in the Classroom and Louisiana Farm Bureau is sponsoring the 2012 Louisiana Ag Literacy Project.

We are seeking volunteers to visit elementary school classrooms around the state to read a book and talk about the importance of Louisiana agriculture. The book for the fourth Louisiana Agriculture Literacy Project is “Seed, Soil, Sun” by Cris Peterson. The book walks young readers through three essential ingredients of food production (seed, soil and sun) with photographs by David Lundquist.

It is the reader’s responsibility to schedule classroom visits. Readers are free to schedule their readings anytime during the school year. Readings should be complete by May 30th 2012. Classroom visits should be scheduled in advance as to adhere with the school district’s policy on classroom volunteers. This year’s book, “Seed, Soil, Sun”, is geared to students in kindergarten through third grade.

Please help us to educate the state’s future voters about the significance of Louisiana’s food, fiber and fuel systems by participating in the Louisiana Agriculture Literacy Project. LA AITC will send you a book and a teacher packet for each school that you have indicated on the registration form. Forms must be received a minimum of three weeks prior to the scheduled reading date. No registrations will be accepted after April 1, 2012.

To register, simply print and complete the registration form.
