In support of Louisiana’s AITC mission to educate and increase understanding of agriculture and instill an appreciation for our renewable food, fiber and fuel systems, Louisiana Ag in the Classroom and Louisiana Farm Bureau declare Wednesday, April 28, 2010 as Louisiana Agriculture Literacy Day. We are seeking volunteers to visit elementary school classrooms around the state to read a book and talk about the importance of Louisiana agriculture. The book for the second Louisiana Agriculture Literacy Day is “The Tree Farmer” by Chuck Leavell and Nicholas Cravotta. The book is about a grandfather who owns a tree farm and takes his grandson on a magical journey through the forest.
It is the reader’s responsibility to schedule classroom visits. While volunteers are encouraged to read on Ag Literacy Day, it is not required. However, readings should be completed by the end of the school year and classroom visits should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance as to adhere with the school district’s policy on classroom volunteers. This year’s book, “The Tree Farmer” is geared to students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
Please help us to educate the state’s future voters about the significance of Louisiana’s food, fiber and fuel systems by participating in Louisiana Agriculture Literacy Day. To register, download, complete and return this form to the LA AITC office by March 15, 2010. LA AITC will send you a book and a teacher packet.
Thank you for your support of LA AITC and Louisiana agriculture.
